Jennifer Barrineau was born in Maryland, and grew up in Sarasota, Florida.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration at the Ringling School of Art and Design.
Since Jennifer and her son’s move to Asheville, North Carolina five years ago, she has been enjoying being here in the mountains living and creating art in a city which she finds to be a very inspiring place to create and grow.
Her artistic expression unapologetically thrusts us into a world where vibrant color, texture and shape collide: A land of color-saturated, dimensional, thought-provoking creations.
“I paint because I have to, and because I love to. Paint is a very
magical medium for me. It enables me to extract from the many images
within my mind, and share them with the world.”
Jennifer has been selling original paintings, prints, cards, stained glass, drawings and mosaic art for many years at outdoor markets, festivals, galleries, and retail shops across the nation.
On October 15th of 2008, Jennifer Barrineau opened her own gallery aptly named “The Tree Gallery & Gifts” filled with her artwork and other local treasures in downtown Asheville. Working in the gallery herself allows her to paint, and network with other local artists. Most importantly, it allows her to individually share her work and inspirations with her customers.
”I love meeting all the people, and hearing their comments. It keeps me painting, and it pushes me to work harder.“
Jennifer also shows at several festivals throughout the summer, and will continue to
participate in upcoming group shows in the Asheville area.
Jennifer is inspired by trees, leaves, color, and energy- most things from nature. And having a mother who has been a horticulturalist for over thirty years, she inherently has a bit of a botanical background as well.
“These things inspire and relax me. I value them, and expect everyone to feel the same, at least for a moment when experiencing my art. ”
To understand this connection to nature, one need only spend a moment in her gallery being tossed between forests to heavenly portals, as you swing thru the moods of the human condition- from the numb stillness of a deep Autumn afternoon to the garish glow of the suns’ “highest yellow”. All the colors and characters of nature are immortalized and enlivened in her work.
Textures are also prevalent in her paintings. Within her pieces one might detect bits of canvas, blades of grass, and often the entire work built up from the very paint itself. Jennifer is perpetually experimenting and advancing her painting techniques.
“This is the other true reason why I paint- it is fun! The process of applying the paint to the canvas with a brush, a cloth, throwing it with water, taking some
back off: all of this, and then seeing something beautiful come to life right there in
front of me.”
